About Dr Kristen Todhunter

Born in Alabama in the USA and received an undergraduate degree in Animal and Dairy Science from Auburn University in Alabama.

Graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine with a DVM in 1994 and practiced as a small animal, avian and exotic, and emergency locum vet until moving to Australia in 1996. She worked in various small animal practices around New South Wales until localizing in Scone, NSW and working at Scone Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and Scone Veterinary Hospital.

She was the primary investigator with a team of equine veterinarians of the original outbreak of equine amnionitis and foetal loss (EAFL) which occurred in 2004 in the Hunter Valley and was eventually determined to be caused by ingestion of the Processionary caterpillar (Ochrogaster lunifer). The pathology of clinical and experimental cases of EAFL was the subject of a PhD finished in 2015 in association with The University of Queensland.

Has worked part-time as a veterinary pathologist for Vetnostics since 2005 attaining membership to the ANZCVS in pathobiology in addition to working on a PhD and raising four children, Alafair, Rosher, Finnegan, and Atticus. Married to Dr Paddy Todhunter and living in Newcastle, NSW.
