Terry graduated BVSc from University of Sydney in 1959, spent 7 years as a Government Veterinarian in Papua New Guinea followed by 15 months in industry (with Merck Sharp & Dohme). Terry then returned to the University of Sydney and completed a PhD in Immunoparasitology.
After a post-doctoral year at St Bart's Hospital in London he joined the CSIRO Division of Animal Health at McMaster Laboratory, to continue research in Immunoparasitology where he remained for 8 years.
In 1979 Terry was appointed Associate Professor in Veterinary Pathology at the University of Sydney and has been responsible for the teaching of Veterinary Pathology as well as providing diagnostic histopathology for the University Hospital and Clinic.
Since 1979 Terry has been involved in the provision of diagnostic histopathology to the veterinary community through Vetnostics.
Author of about 100 publications in refereed journals in Immunoparasitology and Pathology. Senior Examiner for Pathology for the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (for 4 years). Deputy Editor of the International Journal for Parasitology (for 6 years). Official Veterinarian for the Australian Jockey Club (for over 30 years). Awarded DVSc. in 1990 for research in Immunoparasitology.
